Reading the table
Values are shown to four decimals because many minute counts never terminate: 20 minutes is 0.3333…, not 0.33 exactly. For a single day the difference is invisible, but across a fortnight of rounded entries it can shift a total by several minutes. Add minutes first, convert once.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is 6 minutes exactly 0.10 hours?
- Because 6 divides into 60 ten times. That is why some employers record time in tenths of an hour.
- How many decimals should I submit?
- Follow whatever your payroll form asks for, usually two. Just make sure the underlying total was calculated in minutes.
